On Consignment: Very Rare 1959 Brazilian Rosewood Nylon String Classical Guitar, hand-made in Madrid, Spain by renowned classical builder, Andres Martin, Ex+ Condition. European Spruce top, gorgeous solid Brazilian Rosewood back, sides, bindings, bridge, and headstock overlays, maple purfling, Spanish Cedar neck, Ebony fingerboard. Rare, old-style Lansdorfer tuning machines, nickel-silver fretwire, bone nut, saddle and bridge tie block inlays, mother-of-pearl position markers at 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th frets. The lacquer finish is not original. Intricate Andres Martin headstock design. Rosette is marquetry of red, black, blue and white woods in a geometric design. Label is signed "A. Martin, No. 242, 1959" Maker, also signed in pencil on the underside of the top "Construda por A. Martin, No. 242, 1959, Madrid." Bass side of transverse bar below soundhole is in a "Y" configuration, with lower arm open from "Y" juncture to bass side periphery, and the three bass side fan bars extend into upper bout. All materials used in the construction of this instrument are the highest quality available. Case is believed to be the original hard side and is in very good condition. The tone of this instrument is very balanced and sweet. The treble strings speak very well throughout the entire range and the bass strings ring full and true. There is a wonderful range of tone color and it leans to the brighter side overall. Appraised at $3500 in 1995.
