On Consignment - Recent Collings OM-1C, Ex++ Condition. There aren't too many of these cutaway OM's around and this one is a gem. Solid Mahogany back and sides, select Sitka Spruce top, tortoise binding, prewar scalloped bracing, black/white wood nitrate strip rosette, tortoise style pickguard. Other features include a gloss-finished Mahogany neck (perfect for fingerstyle) with Ebony fingerboard and bridge with pearl dot markers, mother of pearl Collings logo and nickel Waverly tuners. The Collings Orchestra Model (OM) guitar is an interpretation of the Martin short run of instruments made between 1929 and 1933. These feature a 000 size body with a 14 fret neck. This guitar hasn't been played much. The owner is Don Latarski, well-known Pacific Northwest performing jazz guitarist, recording artist, author and Professor of Music at the University of Oregon School of Music. See Don's beautiful new website @ http://www.crescentrecords.com/. Don plays exclusively fingerstyle with acrylic style fingernails and he obviously played it with enthusiasm since there are quite a few tiny marks on the top of the finish where the back of the nail hit. So this instrument is not in mint condition, but is perfect for the player. I tried to photograph the scratches, but could not get them to show up. Its possible that 90% of them could be buffed out. It has that very focused Collings (Martin) sound and strings 1 and 2 are especially brilliant and perfect for bringing out the melody on a song. These strings really do sing! The midrange and bass are very articulate and sweet too and form a beautiful compliment to the treble strings. There is an endpin jack already installed, but the sound hole pickup was removed. There is no pickup system installed in the guitar at this time. A meticulously crafted, stunning and fantastic sounding instrument suitable for professional use. (Photos coming soon)
